Time to Layoff More Than 500

Friday, October 30th, 2009

Publishing giant Time, Inc. has announced what amounts to a holiday season bloodbath, as it prepares to layoff 6 percent of its workforce, more than 500 people, by Thanksgiving. The cuts will come almost entirely from staff at its numerous print publications:

The News and Finance Group, which includes Time, Sports Illustrated, Fortune, Fortune Small Business and Money, is expected to be the hardest-hit part of the company…The scale of the layoffs means Time Inc. holds the distinction of the biggest mass firing in publishing this year, outpacing the 460-plus involuntary terminations at rival Condé Nast.
