KansasReporter.org today announced its new relationship with the Franklin Center for Government and Public Integrity, a national nonprofit journalism organization.
As part of the Franklin Center, Kansas Reporter will continue to provide regular coverage of the Kansas legislative, judicial, and executive branches of government, including agencies and other governmental entities, from the state capital, Topeka.
“Kansas Reporter has proven itself to be a trusted news source in Kansas and we are honored to be working with them,” said Jason Stverak, President of the Franklin Center. “We are confident that Kansas Reporter will continue to provide the top notch statehouse news reporting that keeps the citizens of Kansas informed on the actions of their elected officials.”
As of March 1, the Franklin Center began handling all managerial and editing duties for the reporters at Kansas Reporter and Kansas Watchdog, while Kansas Policy Institute will continue as a sponsor of both sites. The Franklin Center will also manage the operations for the reporters. Reporters at KansasReporter.org will now have access to the many editorial and technological supports that the Franklin Center offers as well as numerous training opportunities. The Franklin Center will continue to manage and edit Kansas Watchdog, an investigative news site, with reporter Paul Soutar joining Earl Glynn as employees of Franklin.
Kansas Reporter began as an initiative of Kansas Policy Institute as a way to help fill a void created by the drastic reduction in media resources devoted to state government news coverage. Their mission is to ensure that government is held accountable to all Kansans and to examine issues from all sides. Kansas Reporter is led by Editor Gene Meyer and reporter Rachel Witten.
“Kansas Policy Institute takes pride in the terrific journalistic work that has emerged from both Kansas Reporter and Kansas Watchdog. The reporters at both organizations work tirelessly to provide high quality news to the public and to provide investigative and capital reporting services to traditional news outlets around the state,” said Kansas Policy Institute’s President Dave Trabert. “Through the network that the Franklin Center provides, both news outlets will have enhanced reporting abilities that will make a good product even better. The Franklin Center is a great partner on Kansas Watchdog and we’re very pleased to be able to build on that relationship.”
