Alexandria, VA – Virginia Statehouse News (VSN), a non-profit news organization covering the Virginia capitol, has recently hired a new capitol reporter, Amanda Iacone. Iacone, an experienced reporter with more than seven years of reporting experience in a two-newspaper town, will report on happenings in and around Richmond.
Prior to joining VSN, Iacone was a county reporter, police reporter and bureau reporter for the Journal Gazette in Fort Wayne, Indiana. While at the Gazette, she investigated a commissioners’ pay scandal and covered education, local government, courts and cops for several rural Indiana counties. Prior to the Gazette, Iacone was a stringer for the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
“Amanda is a great addition to an already thriving reporting team in Virginia,” said Franklin Center President Jason Stverak. “Amanda is a talented reporter and we know that she will relentlessly work to keep the elected officials in Virginia accountable to the people. We look forward to the many terrific stories that she will produce in the coming year.”
In addition to Iacone, the VSN staff includes Old Dominion Watchdog reporter Paige Winfield Cunningham and reporter Elizabeth Hillgrove.
VSN operates under a “steal our stuff” model. They supply robust, far reaching coverage of the state house and government news, and encourage broadcasters, media organizations and citizen journalists to utilize their content. VSN will share its reports in audio, video and text formats through the internet, new media and traditional mediums such as newspapers and radio.
